Institute of Acoustics (IOA)

Very High Power Transducer Requirements and Design - presented by Institute of Acoustics (IOA)

Precis of Subject:

Pro audio transducer design requires very high power operation with high efficiency, and linear response. All of these goals conflict, optimization and balancing them is critical. Use of sophisticated simulation software including dynamic FEA to work in three domains; magnetic, mechanical, electrical simultaneously is key. When coupled with comprehensive testing using 3D Vibrometry, Klippel analysis, and extended reliability testing significant improvements are possible. Examples including dynamic simulations, full multi domain analysis, and diaphragm vibration are shown. Applications and system measurements showing transducer performance including thermal behaviour are also shown. Results of applying dsp for thermal and mechanical management is shown for an a system using 7kW amplifiers.

Speaker(s):

Bill Gelow, Electro Voice Engineering, USA

Audience:

This talk, and the accompanying listening examples and demonstrations, will benefit live sound engineers of all levels of experience who can get good sound on a daily basis, but would like to understand more about the science behind the issues they are dealing with and the results that they get.

SPECIAL INTEREST

12.00pm - 1.00pm

James Simpson – Lighting Visualisation – Royal Opera House

Lighting Visualisation at The Royal Opera House, Smart Design in 3D Theatre - presented by James Simpson – Lighting Visualisation – Royal Opera House

Sorry! This seminar is now fully booked, places may become available on the day but cannot be guaranteed.

Precis of Subject:

Lighting visualisation software is developing fast, and whilst the profession is using it more than ever, they may still be surprised to learn how much more can be done. At the Royal Opera House lighting visualisation is being used to join together lighting design to other technical aspects of the production, saving valuable time and money. James Simpson, who runs the visualisation suite at the ROH, discusses the concept of visualisation and the role it plays in their productions, including when the Royal Ballet took Romeo and Juliet to the O2 Arena.

Speaker(s):

James Simpson

Audience:

Aimed at lighting designers, lighting programmers and production managers. Anyone who is interested in the future of visualisation and how it could work for their production or business, whether you know nothing about it or use it regularly

Association of Lighting Designers (ALD)

The Next 50 Years of Lighting Design - presented by Association of Lighting Designers (ALD)

Sorry! This seminar is now fully booked, places may become available on the day but cannot be guaranteed.

Precis of Subject:

As part of the 50th Birthday celebrations of the Association of Lighting Designers, we invite you to join us to discuss what the next 50 years might hold for Lighting Design and Lighting Designers. Questions up for discussion will include: What will / should we do differently in the next 50 years? Is there a Great Innovator - a modern Appia - out there at the moment? How should Lighting Designers influence the development of the tools they work with? Is the role of Stage Lighting Designer a passing fad and are we all destined to become Video Designers?

Speaker(s):

Panellists include Rick Fisher | Rob Halliday | Durham Marenghi and Alex Wardle

Audience:

Anyone intending to have something to do with the future of stage lighting - including lighting, set, costume, media and sound designers, directors, product developers, theatre students, and anyone with the next genius idea to make lighting better.
