A Primer on Audio Equalization - presented by InfoComm International

Precis of Subject:

While the design of a portable sound system design is of primary importance, equalization is the key to getting the best performance from a system in a given acoustic space. This fundamentals presentation will cover the uses of equalization in portable sound systems: theory of operation; types of equalizers; and applications. This seminar has been approved for CTS Renewal Units or 'RU's' and is worth 1.5 RU's. This is valid only for CTS holders, not the specialist CTS certifications CTS-I or CTS-D.

He began his career in concert touring and later moved to AV staging for national touring accounts. He has produced events that incorporate the latest meeting techniques and technologies, sound, lighting and video presentation systems. He has been involved with InfoComm since the early 80’s, serving twice as chair of the Professional Education and Training Committee as well as authoring and presenting classes at the Institute for Professional Development and seminars at InfoComm. Most recently LeJeune was Senior Director of AV Training for an international hotel chain.

Precis of Subject:

This presentation provides an opportunity to go over the fundamental mathematics found in InfoComm’s general CTS exam. Seminar attendees will learn basic calculations including aspect ratios for screens and direct-view displays, projection distance, and fundamental Ohm’s law formulas. This seminar has been approved for CTS Renewal Units or 'RU's' and is worth 1.5 RU's. This is valid only for CTS holders, not the specialist CTS certifications CTS-I or CTS-D.

With the advent of HDMI, DVI, and SDI, getting a presentation system connected can present challenges. Presentation networks are evolving into non-specific infrastructures that communicate over standard TCP/IP. This seminar will explore the basics of signals, networks, and distribution, and will touch on the use of CAT5 and optical fibre. Display Energy Certificates for Performing Arts Venues - presented by Theatres Trust - CIBSE

Precis of Subject:

Display Energy Certificates are currently required by public buildings with a floor area over 1,000 square metres, which can include theatres and performing arts venues. This seminar examines the impact of Display Energy Certificates on performing arts venues in the United Kingdom. Tim Atkinson, The Theatres Trust’s Theatre Building Services Adviser has been looking at Display Energy Certificates for smaller venues in London, and the benchmarketing used to create the Operational Ratings. The session will look at their scope, relevance, benchmarking, legal implications and long-term future and the overall impact of the Government's proposed roll out of Display Energy Certificates to all commercial premises, including theatres.

Hydrogen - an alternative fuel source - presented by Whitelight / Arcola / BOC

Precis of Subject:

During 2010 a joint venture between White Light, Arcola Energy and BOC has resulted in the first of a range of hydrogen powered fuel cells suitable for use in the entertainment industry. These fuel cells have already been used at the Natural History Museum. Latitude Festival and London Bubble Theatre. They provide virtually silent power suitable for use for lighting in remote locations with no emissions.

This seminar will explain the technology behind the system including the use of hydrogen as an alternative fuel source in the future.

This seminar looks at the findings and recommendations arising from Moving Arts, a major report into UK and international touring for the bands, theatre and orchestra sectors conducted by Julie's Bicycle. Nine months in the making the report analyses the emissions arising from touring and makes practical recommendations to reduce them for each key player in the touring supply chain including production managers, tour managers, promoters, venues, suppliers and designers. As well as offering practical tips we will demo our free online tools and resources designed specifically for the touring industry.

European Union Ecovenue Initiative and The Theatres Trust 'Ecovenue' Project - presented by Theatres Trust

A round up of The Theatres Trust’s Ecovenue project, a European Regional Development Fund-backed programme working to improve the environmental performance of London’s smaller theatres. Tim Atkinson introduces the first 24 venues to join the project to improve the sustainability of 48 small to medium sized London performing arts venues. The seminar will look at the various issues that have presented themselves during the course of the project, as well as looking at how smaller venues can begin to address issues of sustainability.
