Drawing on the experiences of the 48 venues involved in Ecovenue, The Theatres Trust’s European Regional Development Fund-backed sustainability project, we present practical tips and practices for improving the environmental performance of theatre and performing arts buildings. Management Standards for Event Sustainability - presented by PLASA

BS 8901, Sustainability Management Systems for Events, is a management standard developed to help the events industry operate in a more sustainable manner - sustainable for the environment, the economy, and the community. Now, there is work being done to make the British standard an ISO standard, with world-wide credence. This panel will present what BS 8901 requires, how it is being used in the events industry, and how it is being adopted as an ISO standard, and how the ISO version differs from the BS version. Ruth Rossington sits on the panel drafting ISO 2012, the ISO version of BS 8901. Karl Ruling is in charge of PLASA's Technical Standards Programme in North America. He sits on the US Technical Advisory Group for ISO 2012.
