Vari-Lite - The Lights That Changed Our World

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the launch of the second generation of Vari-Lite equipment, the Vari-Lite Series 200 range, including the VL2 Spot, VL3 and VL4 Wash, and the Artisan console. This is the product range that really defined the company, defined the era, and became the benchmark for every moving light that’s come since – the very latest moving lights across the PLASA Show are not really very different from those Vari-Lite fixtures, so right were the decisions made by the team who designed them.

This panel celebrates this anniversary with two very special guests, both key members of that team, who will look back at this defining moment and all that followed: Jim Bornhorst, who led the development of every Vari-Lite fixture from the first prototype through to the VL3500 range, and Tom Littrell, the first Vari-Lite Programmer, the interface between lighting designers and this new technology on shows including the legendary Genesis Abacab tour.
