Jason Ahn

Lighting Designer and Neuroaesthetics Researcher

Jason is a lighting designer and neuroaesthetic researcher based in the UK and South Korea, including productions in London's West End and major UK venues.

He is the first to theorise neuroaesthetics in lighting design and popular arts. His work draws on neuroaesthetics, which explores how the brain recognises, processes, and responds to artistic experiences.

This theory is presented in his book Neuroaesthetic Stage Lighting Design: What Makes Good Light, published by Routledge in 2025. He trained at Rose Bruford College and Seoul Institute of the Arts, and began his career at Woodroffe Bassett Design as a placement and has worked with National Theatre, Barbican Centre, PRG UK, and Neg Earth.

Jason also taught at Guildhall School of Music & Drama and Rose Bruford College, and worked in London's West End and major UK venues.
