Kath Geraghty
Kath discovered there were jobs in theatre when she worked for Granada Studios Tours in the 1980’s where she learned to follow-spot on the live "Magic Spectacular”. She went to Oldham College and completed an HND in Engineering, Lighting and Sound for Theatre.
Because she only found her way into theatre through luck, and because her HND at Oldham was so important to her, Kath believes strongly in the importance of technical training. Kath worked for 20 years as a Technician, Lighting Designer and Production Electrician.
She was a Senior Technician at the Stephan Joseph Theatre, Scarborough and Technical Manager of the Granary Theatre, Cork. As a Lighting Designer, she lit World Premieres for Alan Ayckbourn, John Godber, Tim Firth, Robert Sherman and Enda Walsh, working in venues across the UK and Ireland.
Since 2011, Kath has worked at the National Theatre, running programs designed to support young people from all backgrounds into careers in the creative sector, particularly in the craft and production areas. She is currently Chair of the Skills England, Creative and Design Route Panel and co-chair of Skillscene.
