Sarah has spent more than three decades working across the live entertainment and production industries, with a career spanning theatre, touring, journalism, photography, communications and industry advocacy.

She began her career in stage and lighting, working with organisations including the Royal Opera House and Glyndebourne before moving into production, events and ultimately journalism, joining Lighting & Sound International. In 2005, she founded communications agency The Fifth Estate Ltd, going on to work with many of the entertainment technology sector’s leading manufacturers, production companies and creative practitioners.

Alongside her commercial work, Sarah has been behind a number of initiatives designed to challenge and develop the industry. She co-founded Women in Stage Entertainment (WiSE), co-founded and produced the Knight of Illumination Awards in the UK and USA and has consistently championed greater visibility, recognition and opportunity for the people whose work happens behind the scenes.

Today Sarah works selectively as an independent writer, photographer and creative communications consultant, focusing on projects and conversations she believes can make a meaningful contribution to the sector.

She is an honorary fellow of The Academy of Live Technology and a fellow of the ALPD and brings a practitioner’s understanding of live production alongside a journalistic curiosity about the people, ideas and issues shaping its future.
