Tom White

Tom was first introduced to Vectorworks in 2001 while studying BA Technical Theatre Arts at Middlesex University. After graduating, Tom started at the Bush Theatre in London as a production Electrician and then its Chief Technician. This was followed by a wide variety of shows, events, and concerts at the Roundhouse in Camden. Some of these included the BBC Electric Proms, iTunes Festival and Short Circuit Festival.

During this time, Tom also toured with the Opera Group and ROH, and after a national tour of the U,K they then held the title of Head of Lighting at Longborough Festival Opera in the Cotswolds. A few years later, Tom became Head of Lighting for Regents Park Open Air Theatre in Central London.

During this period, Tom also worked as a lighting designer for Theatre and Opera designing approximately 80 productions and working as an associate on 30 others.

In 2013, while touring worldwide with the Shakespeare company ‘Propeller,’ Tom won the Inaugural Jill Fraser Award for his re-light and associate design work.

Altogether, Tom did four years of international touring with Propeller, followed by numerous tours for Frantic Assembly and re-lights and adaptations for English Touring Opera.

Most recently, Tom was the Deputy Chief Electrician at the Grade 1 listed Bath Theatre Royal in the west of England. Tom’s Vectorworks drafting has included projects for St Petersburg Ballet Theatre, Welsh National Opera, and The National Theatre of Great Britain.

As a freelance Vectorworks Specialist, he has undertaken Vectorworks training and consultancy work for CSSD, The Lir, Rose Bruford, Lipa, Knifedge design, Abbey Theatre Dublin, Slava Snowshow, and Phoenix Dance Theatre in Leeds.

Tom still designs a handful of productions a year and in 2021 won the What’s on stage ‘Offie’ award for Best Lighting Design.
